CNC Wire EDM
"Electrical Discharge Machining"

Electrical Discharge Machining or EDM is a process that removes electrically conductive material through an "electrical sparking" action. A brass wire interacting with the metal cuts precision dimensions by rapidly recurring controlled electrical discharges repeated millions of times per second.

Imagine a high precision "vertical band saw" with a blade no larger than .004" to .012" in diameter. Unlike the saw action, wire EDM is cutting continuously via a spool "brass wire". There is no pressure exerted on the wire or on the part. In fact, the wire never actually touches the work. The sparking action is maintained across a 0.0002" to 0.0003" gap that is always present between the wire and the part being cut. We find, there is no need to use heavy clamping or straps to hold the parts in position.

Wire EDM affords you the opportunity to produce extremely exacting tolerances that otherwise might not be achievable. High precision parts are available time after time without the interaction of cutting tools.

We are currently running:

  • 6 - Wire CNC EDM (FANUC) (14.5 x 19.5 x 16" Under Wire)(Z Axis = 16")
  • 1 – CNC EDM "Hole Popper"
  • 1 - EDM Manual "Hole Popper"
