This process is uniquely suited for fabricating exact reproductions of highly detailed models which do not require production plastic resin, and can be used for manufacturing prototypes, for short runs and for some production applications. 3Axis Development, Inc., offers cast urethane parts produced from silicone rubber molds. RTV molds can produce from 20 to 50 parts, and the tooling patterns for the molds can be derived from SLA, SLS, 3D-printing options, plastic, metal or original parts. Urethane based tooling is also available for longer runs.
We offer a wide range of material options for urethane and silicone castings. Cured urethanes exhibit molded properties from flexible Shore A properties to ABS-like Shore D properties. We can match color or mold to liquid clear.
This rapid manufacturing service can deliver urethane parts in 2-3 weeks.
In close parallel with RIM injection molding, this rapid setting urethane process provides a wide variety of material options, from flexible to rigid urethanes. Either epoxy, urethane, silicone or aluminum tooling is used, depending on the part's geometry and material specifications. Most molds are made directly from models of the finished part. Models composed of a wide range of materials can be used for mold creation, including wood, plastic, metal, SLA, SLS and more.
Liquid resin casting does not require consistent wall thickness, as would be required for injection molding. Additionally, features such as threaded bushings onto the part during the molding process, eliminating the need for some secondary, post-molding applications. Parts can be produced with variable wall thicknesses from as thin as one sixteenth of an inch (1/16") to as thick as over an inch (1"+), all in the same part. Parts can be molded in different colors or can be painted after completion. Liquid resin casting can produce parts as large as 250 cubic inches in volume and 48 inches in length.
