Back in a FlashBack in a Flash™

is a USB stick which automatically backs up your files every day, and can resuscitate your computer if it crashes.

There is essentially no installation – you plug it into a USB port and click once. Your compressed and encrypted backed-up files are stored inside the unit daily, without you lifting a finger.

If your computer ever crashes, Back in a Flash™ allows you to restart the computer and get back to work in a flash. You can create documents, spreadsheets and presentations, and, more importantly, open and edit your own files that are stored inside the device by the daily back-ups.

You can also surf the Web, do e-mail and IM, listen to music, play movies, and more. Despite the crashed computer. How can it do this?

Because Back in a Flash™ has its own bootable operating system (so a user simply boots-up the computer from it) plus an extensive software suite with Microsoft® Office® compatible programs, web browser, etc.

While a bit over-simplified, you’re using the computer’s processor and RAM memory, and Back in a Flash™ is providing the rest (operating system, software, your backed-up files, and non-volatile flash storage to save the files you create/edit in this resuscitation mode).

Back in a Flash™ is compatible with Windows® Vista®, XP and 2000. It is available in four storage sizes, from 3.5 GB to 31.5 GB, to meet different needs – from a user with mostly documents and limited pictures and music, to one with an extensive library of pictures and music. + Determine What Size Back in a Flash™ You Need
1. Pick 3 numbers, one from each category, that fits your needs.
  My Pictures
In three years about how many hi-res images (e.g., from your digital camera) will you have in your computer?
  Under 250 500 1,000 2,000 3,000 4,000
  1 2 4 8 12 16
Note: This covers pictures from your camera and other high-resolution images (like an architectural drawing). If your pictures are from a cell phone, you can cut the number in half. If they're from a professional camera (8+ Megapixels), double the number. Don't worry about lesser resolution images, like those downloaded from a website or received via e-mail - we've got that covered.
  My Music
In three years about how many songs will you have in your computer?
  under 50 250 500 1,000 2,000 3,000 4,000
  0 1 2 4 8 12 16
Adjustments: This is for typical songs in your computer or iPod. If you depart from the norm and you rip/copy songs from CDs in higher fidelity (lossless .wav format), multiply your number by 10.
  My Videos
In three years about how many minutes (hours) of YouTube-type videos will you have in your computer?
  Under 60 (1) 240 (4) 480 (8) 720(12) 960(16) 1440 (24)
  1 2 4 8 12 16
Important Notice: This is for typical formatting used on the Internet. Raw video from a camera requires 50 times more capacity and will overwhelm flash storage. If you will have raw video in your computer, Back in a Flash™ can only be used by taking special steps; see footnote*.
2. Add the 3 numbers you picked and then ADD 2 to that.
3. Select your Back in a Flash™ based upon your score.
  3 - 4 3.5 GB
  5 - 9 7.5 GB
  10 - 18 15.5 GB
  19 - 35 31.5 GB
*Video Note: If you download video from a video camera into your computer, you an use Back in a Flash™ only if such video is never allowed to be in the My Videos folder when Back in a Flash™ does its daily backups. Not only must you save the raw videos in another folder, but you must ensure that Back in a Flash™ is not plugged in your computer while editing raw videos (because by default most editing software places video files in My Videos during editing.)
